The flurry of goals came on his first MLS start for the club and in doing so became the first player to achieve the feat for the Timbers. Janssen’s goalscoring feat will rub extra salt in the wounds of Spurs, who are yet to net in the Premier League this season. The North London side sit 17th in the league table with a minus-5 goal difference. They lost their two opening games of the campaign before escaping Nottingham Forest with a goalless draw on Saturday. It is the first time that Spurs have failed to hit the net in the first three league games of a season since 1974. The failure in front of goal comes after the club forked out nearly £400million in the summer transfer window. Janssen left Tottenham in 2019 after scoring just six times in 42 appearances. He has since had spells at Monterrey in Mexico before returning to Europe with Antwerp in 2022. After four years in Belgium, the striker has now found his new home in Oregon. You don’t have a lot of them. “It’s a pleasure. I was able to sign here a month ago, a bit longer. “To be able to be part of this club, I’m very proud and happy of that, and today this is a way of showing the appreciation back to the team and to the fans.” Spurs will be hoping one player can recreate Janssen’s achievement in the Prem soon.
