Tottenham agree Guglielmo Vicario transfer to Juventus after Emi Martinez move collapses with Spurs to take huge loss

TOTTENHAM goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to sign for Juventus on loan. The Italian giants swooped for Vicario after seeing a move for Aston Villa star Emi Martinez fall through. Vicario, 29, has been training with Tottenham this summer but did not go on their tour of Australia and New Zealand and hasn’t played a single minute of pre-season. The five-cap international was in attendance at both matches against Hoffenheim over the weekend but was not in either matchday squad. Tottenham have accepted an initial loan offer from Juventus for their stopper. According to Sky Sports, the deal contains an £8.5m option to buy – which would mark a big loss on the £17m that Spurs paid for him in 2023. Vicario’s Tottenham contract runs until the summer of 2028. This means that he could yet return to the North Londoners, should Juve opt not to make the loan switch permanent. He went on to play 117 times for the club, keeping 29 clean sheets. The pinnacle of his Tottenham career undoubtedly came in Bilbao in 2025, as he helped the North Londoners end their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League. They were in the mix for Japanese No1 Zion Suzuki, who now appears set for Aston Villa. Juve then chased Martinez, but couldn’t agree a fee with the Villans. Spalletti’s men have now settled on Spurs star Vicario. And the Udine-born star could make his debut this Sunday as his side kick off their Serie A campaign against Frosinone.
