Toro Y Moi first came to prominence as a chillwave pioneer, and he has explored a whole lot of different musical ideas over the past decade and a half. In the time since his 2024 album Hole Erth, Chaz Bear has done a lot of different things — covering Broken Social Scene, collaborating with Kenny Beats, demonstrating an AI music tool at an AI developer conference. We can only hope that he didn't use that tool while making Unusua, the new album that he'll release in a couple of weeks.A couple of weeks ago, Toro Y Moi released "Proof," a zoned-out instrumental that combines a still, impressionistic piano with a brittle, itchy synth arpeggio. Today, Bear quietly announced plans to release Unusua, simply by putting the album listing up on Bandcamp without elaborating. We haven't received any PR on the record. According to the Bandcamp page, Bear performed, arranged, and produced the entire record himself at Scenic Route in Berkeley and 2200 Studios in Sausalito.Based on "Proof" and "Motive," the new track that Bundick shared today, it looks like Unusua will be a piano-heavy instrumental record. Below, check out those two tracks and the LP's tracklist.TRACKLIST:01 "Keynote"02 "Motive"03 "Proof"04 "Poor Connection"05 "Interval"06 "Lull"07 "Obsolete"Unusua is out 11/20 on Company Studio.
