Kyiv is suspected to be behind the attack because Chayko – a decorated Russian war hero whom Ukraine formally listed as a war criminal in June – is behind a string of ruthless aerial bombings across the war. Ukrainian forces also blitzed his Engels-2 airbase in the Saratov region today. In 2022, Chayko commanded Russian forces on the Kyiv front. His troops carried out barbaric mass rapes, tortures, and murders in Bucha, west of the capital, during Putin’s initial invasion. More than 450 were killed in what is seen as one of the worst Russian war crimes of the conflict. It comes as another high-flying Russian bloodhound was killed by a Ukrainian FPV drone. Dmitry Mikhailov, 39, one of Putin’s youngest generals, had been seriously wounded while travelling in an armoured Tigr vehicle. He was allegedly travelling through the war zone after dismissing warnings about Ukrainian drones. Mikhailov has been linked to war crimes in Russia’s brutal occupation of the Izium area. Ukrainian investigators branded Mikhailov a war criminal over his command of the embattled region. More than a dozen Russian generals have died in the war. Comment now
