Top British homeware chain with ‘everything must go’ sale closes store today – with 14 more still to come

A MAJOR homeware chain is set to close an “excellent” branch today, with 14 more stores expected to follow. News of the sale and the store’s closure was shared by locals on social media last week. The site had been praised for its “excellent service” and “great” range of tiles and accessories, as its closure marks a blow to residents. Now, the company’s nearest branch will be more than 12 miles away in Epsom, although it is unknown if this branch will be one of remaining 14 affected by closures. Earlier this year, Topps Tiles announced it would shut 23 “under-performing” stores as part of “significant self-help measures”. Representing around 7 per cent of its 319 locations, nine branches will have now closed with the remaining 14 being shut over the next few months. This comes as the brand has been forced to make cost-saving measures in a tough economic market. At the time, Topps Tiles chief executive Alex Jensen said: “In light of subdued consumer sentiment and geopolitical uncertainty as well as the cumulative impact of cost inflation, the management team is implementing a targeted programme of self-help measures weighted towards the second half.” Most read in Money “These actions are designed to support year on year profit growth and provide a stronger financial platform for 2027 and beyond.” Founded in 1963, the Leicestershire-based brand specialises in a range of DIY and home improvement products. As of April 2026, the brand employed around 1,850 people, however it is unclear how many jobs have been affected as a result of the closures. Comment now
