Top 15 recruit Moussa Kamissoko is connecting with Mo Williams: ‘He did everything I want to do.’

Moussa Kamissoko‘s recruitment is beginning to heat up — and Kentucky is right there in the mix. Ranked No. 15 in the 2027 class by the Rivals Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-8 Kamissoko had a solid week at Peach Jam for the PSA Cardinals. Outside of a rough outing in the last of his five games played, the New York product was putting together impressive numbers. He finished his time in North Augusta, SC, averaging 16.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per outing while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. College coaches from all over the country made sure to sit front and center to watch Kamissoko in action at Peach Jam. Kentucky head coach Mark Pope and assistant Mo Williams were among those watching courtside throughout the last couple of days. Those two have been Kamissoko’s main recruiters with the Wildcats. They officially offered him in May and have been in regular talks ever since. “Coach Mo Williams and Mark Pope,” Kamissoko said when asked who he talks with at Kentucky. “Mo Williams was in the NBA so we talk about a lot of NBA talk, college talk. His journey, my journey, and how he can push me.” The relationship between Kamissoko and Williams continues to grow. Having a former NBA All-Star and champion on the coaching staff is a major plus for someone like Kamissoko who aspires to reach those same heights. “He’s been in that situation before,” Kamissoko said of Williams. “He did everything I want to do. McDonald’s (All-American), everything. I think he was the number one (high school) point guard in the country. So he was just telling me not letting the hype of high school get to your head, continue improving every day.” Pope is playing a big role in Kamissoko’s recruitment, too. They found a connection through the country of Mali in West Africa. Pope coached a player at BYU, Mali native Fousseyni Traore, for multiple seasons. Kamissoko’s parents also came to the United States from Mali. “Coach Pope had FaceTimed me. I guess he had another player from Mali, because that’s where my parents are from,” he said. “He was talking about his journey to Mali, how he liked it, it’s a beautiful country, and we just bonded from there.” Kamissoko mentioned that Pope wants to take him out fishing. A visit to Lexington is even in the works, he said, although no date has been locked in. Kamissoko says he won’t begin to schedule those until after Peach Jam is fully wrapped up. The likes of UConn, Baylor, Alabama, Louisville, Arkansas, Syracuse, Virginia, and Oklahoma State were schools he mentioned as ones he’s also hearing from right now.
