Tony Shalhoub deliberately kept his family out of the Hollywood spotlight despite his decades-long acting career. “My dad is beloved,” the “Monk” star’s daughter Josie told Page Six in a recent exclusive interview. “But growing up in Los Angeles, celebrities are a dime a dozen, and my dad is very private and very intentionally wanted to stay out of the tabloids.” Josie added that the “Wings” alum “didn’t want PR,” and “just wanted to have his work-life balance, and I think he did a really great job of that.” Tony Shalhoub spoke to Page Six about his book, “We Thought They’d Never Leave.” Page Six It’s co-written by Shalhoub’s daughter, Josie. I would also say, and we say it in the book, it’s not a vacation either,” he said. “It is something else. It’s effortful. But you know, kind of rewarding.” Josie echoed her father’s sentiments, describing the reunions as “more of a convention, less of a vacation.” “The whole point of the reunion is to try our best to set differences aside; it’s not always possible, but it’s important for us to try,” she explained. However, Josie made it clear that readers shouldn’t expect any juicy Hollywood secrets from the father-daughter duo’s book. Want more celebrity and pop culture news? My dad is squeaky clean. There’s no skeletons in his closet!” she added. The book also features some of the Shalhoub family’s favorite recipes, including stuffed grape leaves, which the actor encouraged readers to try. “You might wonder why they’ve been missing it their whole lives,” he said of the Lebanese dish, which he described as “filled with spices and meat … tomatoes, rice.” “They’re served hot and they are absolutely a lifelong tradition,” he added.
