Since late 2024, DC Studios has continued to build out its superhero reboot, with numerous movies and TV shows already released in the DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" slate. However, while several actors have already boarded the franchise, audience members still have other stars they hope to see get cast at some point. Gunn was recently asked by a user on Threads, "Will Tom Holland have a DCU Role in the Future ? I can see him as Either Beast Boy, Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad, one of the Robins, Kyle Rayner, Brainiac 5, or Mon-El." However, the DC Studios co-CEO responded with, "Not sure 30-year-old Tom wants to follow up Spider-Man with Aqualad." It's also highly unlikely that he will be joining the DC brand in the near future, as Holland just returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man in Brand New Day. The Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios-made film has grossed over $2 billion at the time of this story's publication and has become the highest-grossing feature for 2026. Even though there have been DC films and series to feature actors from the MCU timeline, chances are slim that Holland would be available for any character in Gunn's franchise while he is still playing the web-crawler. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day's commercial success, it would be shocking if Sony and Marvel didn't go forward with a sequel. Either they would have to wait for him to be fully done as Peter Parker, or they could take a similar approach to Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in the MCU. While not being part of the DCU, the Winter Soldier veteran is making his DC debut in Matt Reeves' The Batman - Part II, which exists as an Elseworlds property at DC Studios. While it remains to be seen what other Elseworlds stories will be tackled as upcoming DC movies, it's not impossible that Holland and DC Studios worked together on something that is outside the DCU, potentially as a one-off. Despite the fact that he has talked about potentially finishing his run as the Marvel icon in the coming years, only time will tell how soon that might be, especially after his success with Spider-Man: Brand New Day this summer.
