Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter have joined the cast of the currently untitled Fred Astaire film. Holland is set to portray the legendary star, who became famous for his work as an actor and dancer. Qualley is set to play Adele Astaire, Fred's sister and longtime stage partner. The siblings performed together on Broadway and in London’s West End. Carpenter will portray Ginger Rogers. Rogers was an actress, singer, and dancer who became one of the most beloved stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age. During the 1930s, she worked with Astaire in a series of musical films. She also won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Kitty Foyle. Paul King is set to direct the film, with Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor producing alongside Holland, under 17. Ben Holden and Josh Hyams are also producing through Lightbulb Pictures. Harry Holland, Will South, Steve Levenson, Will Clarke, and Andy Mayson will serve as executive producers. Levenson and King wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Astaire biopic. The script is based on Kathleen Riley’s book The Astaires: Fred & Adele. The author also contributed to the untitled project as a script and story consultant. Astaire's grandson, Tyler McKenzie, is also involved as both a consultant and co-producer. Astaire was a dancer, actor, singer, choreographer, and presenter. His impressive career lasted more than seven decades. Astaire became one of the most famous dancers of his time and received numerous awards, including an Honorary Academy Award, a BAFTA, three Emmys, three Golden Globes, a Grammy, and a David di Donatello Award. Astaire has a very unique style, combining elements from several different types of dancing, such as tap and classical dance. He referred to his technique as an “outlaw style.” His signature movement also had a lasting impact on ballroom dancing, which eventually became known as the American Smooth.
