Toddler killed by TikTok-watching driver, 32, who smashed into back of car at roundabout

A TODDLER was killed after a driver who was watching Tiktok videos ploughed into the back of his mum’s car. Chloe Baker was travelling home from an after school club with her son, Finley, when Hristo Iliev’s car smashed into hers and left the 20-month-old unresponsive. The Bulgarian national was looking at clips on Tiktok when he hit Chloe’s car at the Holdingham roundabout on the A17, Lincolnshire, on 19 March last year. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! He approached a queue of slow-moving traffic in his Volkswagon Passat but failed to react. His car ploughed into Chloe’s stationary Kia Ceed and shunted her car into the Audi A5 in front. Chloe, Finley and her other 8-year-old son who was in the back of the car were rushed to hospital. The mum has since had a major reconstructive surgery after her shoulder was injured in the crash. Iliev, of Hide Close, Boston, Lincolnshire, was found to have been using Tiktok and Apple TV for seven minutes before the smash. A police spokesperson said: “Evidence of video viewing, uploading and downloading was evident. Most read in The Sun “Crucially in the moments before the collision occurred, the examination found that the TikTok application was in use and a video was playing.” He was jailed for 11 years and three months at Lincoln Crown Court on 11 June, after previously admitting to causing death by dangerous driving. A heartbreaking tribute has now been released by Finley’s parents Chloe and Daniel for their “a little ray of sunshine”. They said: “As Finley grew, he became kind, loving, curious and brought joy to everyone he met and everywhere he went. He had the most beautiful smile and his bright blue eyes would light up the room.” The couple said he filled the family home with fun and laughter. He loved dancing with his brother, reading book, riding his bike and meeting dogs when they went for walks, they added. Finley’s mum and dad said: “Appalling choices made the day we lost Finley mean we never get to hear his little voice again.” “We don’t get to take him to his first day of school, watch him in his first school nativity or sports day.” They added a “Finley shaped hole” had been left after “his entire life was stolen from him for the most senseless of reasons. “No parent should ever have to outlive their child, let alone lose them in the most horrific way like we did. “It splits your life into two, the before and the after and we wouldn’t wish for anyone to live in this after.” Daniel and Chloe said: “Knowing how full of life he was and how much he still had to experience in life, makes his death impossible to accept. “We will forever continue to honour and remember him for the beautiful little soul that he was.” Daniel and Chloe thanked the members of the public that stopped and helped them after the horrific crash and Lincolnshire Police for their support over the last 15 months. Detective Sergeant James Perring, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision was due to the dangerous driving of Iliev when he selfishly paid no attention to his driving as he watched videos on his devices. “Those actions cost a young toddler his life and seriously injured another, destroying lives in a way which can never be undone. “The importance of concentration and not being distracted cannot be overstated. This was a wholly preventable collision, and I feel nothing but disappointment for the way he has so pointlessly destroyed lives. I would implore anybody thinking of behaving in the same way never to do so.”
