Following protests and representations from employees, the Tamil Nadu government has withdrawn its order, issued on September 11, to restrict interim monthly pension payout to ₹10,000 plus dearness relief.A letter from the Expenditure Secretary to the Director of Treasuries and Accounts stated that it would revert to the arrangement as per the June 16 Government Order (G.O.) for the interim monthly payouts to employees who retired on or after January 1, 2006. Any recovery initiated as per the letter issued on September 11 by the Expenditure Secretary also should be stopped immediately. The letter stated that retired employees who had served for more than 10 years and families of employees who died in service would receive 30% of their last drawn basic pay or ₹10,000, whichever is higher, plus a dearness relief of 60%, as per orders contained in the June 16 G.O. Any difference between the interim monthly payouts already disbursed to retired employees and the final eligible payout under the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS) rules will be adjusted in the future.College teachers and government employees had staged demonstrations on Friday and had sent across representations to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, the Finance Minister, the Finance Secretary, and the Higher Education Secretary against the September 11 letter, which restricted the interim pension payout to ₹10,000 plus dearness relief and directed the recovery of any additional amount disbursed already.
