T.N. Coastal Zone Management Authority orders demolition of unauthorised compound wall in Injambakkam

VGP Housing Limited began the demolition work on Tuesday (August 25, 2026). | Photo Credit: Special arrangement The Tamil Nadu State Coastal Zone Management Authority (TNSCZMA) has directed VGP Housing Limited to demolish a concrete compound wall, which was constructed without the required Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance, in Injambakkam.The final order, issued by Asha Ajith, member secretary, TNSCZMA, on July 8, 2026, relates to Survey No. 15-198 in Injambakkam village, where the firm had undertaken construction of an approximately 120 metre long reinforced cement concrete compound wall.During an inspection, officials found that the work was at the foundation stage, along with M-sand, stone aggregates, and an excavator, at the site. The property falls under the CRZ-II category. The company told authorities during a personal hearing on June 23, 2026, that the wall was being constructed to safeguard the property, prevent misuse, and maintain cleanliness and security. It also acknowledged that the land fell within the CRZ area. The authority, however, concluded that the construction had been undertaken in violation of the CRZ Notification, 2011.The order directed VGP Housing Limited to carry out the demolition and ensure compliance with the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016, while undertaking the work. The Chennai Collector and other authorities have also been asked to ensure compliance and submit an action-taken report to the TNSCZMA.
