Hyperdub will release the project on February 19, and today they’ve shared the first single, the marching band-inspired “Roll Call.”World’s End builds on Reaper’s jungle foundation while taking inspiration from gqom, footwork, drill, and techno. In a press statement, Reaper explained he was inspired to toy with other genres following the release of his 2024 EP, Scorched Earth. “Scorched Earth EP was inspired by a conversation I had with a mate where he was asking how I define ‘jungle’—and for me, jungle is mainly about the breakbeats and the tempo, but it could have anything else going on within that template,” he said. “The realisation made me want to challenge myself to try and bring in newer, lesser referenced sounds.”Read Pitchfork’s review of Tim Reaper and Comfort Zone’s Banoffee Pies White Label Series 01.World’s End:01 Roll Call02 Dustbowl03 Fangs04 Aim Assist05 Subspace06 Emergency Loop07 Feeding Frenzy08 Impending Doom09 Hard Rain10 Sudden Death11 Widespread PanicKiana Mickles is a staff writer at Pitchfork.
