Tim Allen’s ‘Shifting Gears’ Officially Confirms 2027 Return Date

Despite the long-awaited return to the format that made his name, it's probably only fitting that the show took its time to shift through the gears, trying to find an audience and click with the right people. Well, after a number of years, it has officially learned its fate. ABC has officially confirmed that Shifting Gears will return for Season 3 on Wednesday, January 6, 2027, with a special two-episode premiere beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The announcement comes as part of the network's newly unveiled midseason schedule, which also confirms the return of The Rookie for Season 9 at 9 p.m., followed by the premiere of its new spinoff, The Rookie: North, at 10 p.m. The series stars Tim Allen (Home Improvement) as Matt Parker, Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls) as Riley, Seann William Scott (American Pie) as Gabriel, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell (NCIS: New Orleans) as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers) as Carter, and Barrett Margolis (The Rookie) as Georgia.
