The Tigers have picked up their $10MM option on swingman Drew Anderson, the club announced. They declined a $12MM option on closer Kenley Jansen in favor of a $2MM buyout. Detroit also re-signed righty Jacob Waguespack to a one-year, $1.3MM guarantee. That deal contains an additional $200K in performance bonuses: $25K apiece at 45 and 50 innings pitched, and $50K each at 55, 60, and 65 frames. Waguespack, a client of The Team, was eligible to sign with Detroit within the five-day exclusive negotiation window to retain their own free agents. Picking up Anderson’s option and re-signing Waguespack necessitated making four cuts from the 40-man roster. Detroit has placed pitchers Bailey Horn and Sawyer Gipson-Long on release waivers, designated reliever Yilber Díaz for assignment, and sent outfielder Corey Julks outright off the roster. Julks has already cleared waivers and elected free agency, per the team. More to come. View Comments (8)
