Three rescued from flood waters after SA's weekend deluge

Three people who drove through flood waters have been rescued, following a weekend of heavy rainfall and storm activity across South Australia. Several South Australian towns recorded record breaking August rainfall totals across Saturday and Sunday, including 110 millimetres at Lenswood and 101mm at Coromandel East.The State Emergency Service said it had received more than 530 requests for assistance during the weather event, mostly responding to flood-related incidents in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Meanwhile SA Police said three people have been rescued after driving into flood waters at the intersection of Wingate and Winzor Roads at Hillier. Police said emergency services were called just after 4.50am on Monday, following reports that a car had driven into a flooded area.Police said two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, managed to get themselves out through the windows and safely to the side of the road. While police were assisting the two people, another car drove into the water and also became stuck.The male driver was able to exit the vehicle and was also helped by police to safety.Both of the vehicles were washed away by the floodwaters, but police said there were no injuries as a result.
