THREE men have been injured after being attacked with an “unknown substance” in Notting Hill – just hours before the carnival begins. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. The third victim was treated for a hand injury, but he did not require further treatment. A Met spokesperson said: “Police were supported by the London Fire Brigade and British Transport Police. “Two men in their 20s were taken to hospital and their injuries have since been confirmed as non-life-threatening. “A third man in his 20s was treated at the scene for a hand injury and did not require further treatment. “Police enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this early stage. Most read in The Sun “Enquiries indicate that this was an isolated incident, with no wider threat to the public. “Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101, quoting reference CAD 7927/27AUG. “Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.” The London Ambulance Services (LAS) confirmed teams were scrambled to the Ladbroke Grove Tube station yesterday. An LAS spokesperson added: “We were called at 10:41pm yesterday to reports of an assault by Ladbroke Grove Underground Station, W10. “We sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and paramedics from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). “We treated three patients at the scene and took two to hospital”. Europe’s largest street carnival has taken place in the Notting Hill area of West London since 1966. More than 7,000 officers will be deployed to West London over the Bank Holiday weekend as the Met prepares to police the event. It comes after 528 arrests were made at last year’s carnival.
