Three injured after bus ploughs into 12 vehicles in train station car park as road closed & services axed

THREE people have been injured after a bus ploughed into cars outside a train station – forcing the road to close and rail services to be cancelled. Travel chaos has erupted following the horror smash at the station in Portslade, East Sussex, this afternoon. Boundary Road, which stretches either side of the busy tracks, has ground to a halt while emergency crews deal continue recovery work. The 46 bus turned at the station and went into the back of two cars… “[It] then swerved and hit seven cars in the station car park.” The bus is understood to have struck one car, before ploughing into 11 stationary cars in the cark park, Sussex Police said. But nobody on board the bus was injured, the force added. A woman was taken to hospital to be treated while two men were treated at the scene. “The bus is believed to have collided with a car before colliding with parked cars in Portslade railway station car park. “Police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with dashcam footage, to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting serial 697 of 1/9.” Portslade has now reopened after the station and level crossing were closed to allow emergency services access. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service added: “We were called at 2.02pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus and a number of vehicles. “Four fire appliances were in attendance from Hove, Preston Circus and the technical rescue units from Battle and Lewes. “Crews assisted emergency services and worked to make the area safe, leaving the scene by 3.26pm. “Sussex Police and Ambulance Service were also in attendance.” Matt Ashton, managing director for Brighton and Hove Buses, confirmed an “incident occurred today at Portslade Station”. Govia Thameslink Railway had said: “Portslade Station is closed while emergency services deal with an incident at the front of the station. “We’re sorry to Southern customers who are affected.” Southern Rail previously warned passengers disruption could continue until 4.30pm. Issuing a statement on X, it said: “No trains can stop at Portslade Until further notice. “You will need to use an alternative route to reach your destination. “You should allow at least an additional 45 minutes to complete your journey today. “If you are travelling to/from Portslade you will need to use an alternative route.
