Witcher 3 Modders Restore Cut Content That Makes Catching Up For Songs Of The Past Easier Than Ever Published Aug 6, 2026, 3:28 PM EDT Sign in to your TheGamer account The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a legendary RPG in practically every category, but one of its greatest strengths in terms of length and the sheer amount of content there is to discover is also its greatest shortcoming. With players flocking to The Witcher 3 in preparation for the upcoming DLC expansion with Songs of the Past, revisiting the game comes with the problem of having to remember what happened in the story so far. Thankfully, as spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, a Witcher 3 modder by the name of glassfish777 has created the perfect solution to this all-too-common problem. With a new mod, glassfish777 has introduced an event viewer that allows you to seamlessly rewatch all previously unlocked storybook cutscenes and their descriptions at will. The Witcher 3's Event Viewer Is An Absolute Game Changer Although The Witcher 3's storybook cutscenes change periodically as you progress the story to help offer a refresher each time you pick up the game, this latest mod adds in several new functions that drastically increase its effectiveness, while also adding in some entirely unused content that never made it into the full release of The Witcher 3. After downloading the mod, simply head over to the new Events tab under the in-game Glossary, where you'll see a list of every milestone-based storybook cutscene you've unlocked so far to view at your own leisure. Each of these events also includes a handy text descriptor if you don't feel like watching every cutscene at once, which were originally written by the folks at CD Projekt Red themselves and localized in all languages before being cut from the full release. Several of these cutscenes even include entirely new content that was otherwise impossible to see in the base game due to unlocking at the same time as separate scenes, offering an even better way to get caught up while eagerly awaiting the release date for Songs of the Past. More RPGs Should Include Recap Mechanics Like This While the idea of a way to quickly get caught up on past quests or story beats you might have forgotten about isn't an entirely new concept in the gaming world, easily accessible event viewers like the ones made by glassfish777 are an excellent addition to any long-form RPG. With some open-world games taking hundreds of hours to beat that can easily be split into weeks, months, or even years depending on their length, there are more than a few RPGs like Mass Effect or Skyrim that could desperately use event viewer mechanics to help players get caught up in what they might have forgotten about in between play sessions, as completed quest descriptions are rarely enough on their own. Although this problem won't be as prevalent in The Witcher 4, considering it probably won't have post-launch DLC that you'll need to catch up on the base game to understand, the ambitious scope of the game could easily repeat the same mistakes as its predecessor without an official event viewer. Thankfully, even if CD Projekt Red doesn't add it on release, we can count on modders to help fill the gaps and take The Witcher 3's successor to even greater heights.
