Published September 24, 2026 09:57 AM The NFL is reminding teams not to line up offside on the tush push.In a video sent to all 32 teams this week, NFL officiating and rules analyst Walt Anderson used a Seahawks tush push, which was called for offensive offside, to illustrate the type of penalty that will be called.“We have covered this before, but clubs are reminded on both sides of the ball to line up properly on these push plays,” Anderson said.Anderson showed how the Seahawks were aligned on the play, which was snapped to tight end AJ Barner for a first down but called back because of the penalty, and said one Seahawk had both his hand and helmet in the neutral zone, and another had his hand in the neutral zone.“Here, this hand is clearly offside, this head is clearly offside, as is the right hand of the tight end,” Anderson said.During the unsuccessful attempt to ban the tush push in 2025, one of the arguments against it was that it was too hard to officiate. The league is still trying to make sure everyone understands exactly what will and will not be flagged.
