This Toyota Hilux rival will make its debut tomorrow

Mahindra will unveil the production-spec Scorpio Pikup tomorrow, August 14, marking its entry into the lifestyle pickup segment with a rugged, premium truck aimed at rivals like the Toyota Hilux.Mahindra is set to globally unveil the production version of its long-awaited Scorpio Pikup on August 14. The lifestyle pickup, which takes inspiration from the Global Pik Up concept showcased in 2023, will become Mahindra’s latest entrant into the growing premium pickup truck segment and is expected to rival the Toyota Hilux.Ahead of its global debut, Mahindra has released a 40-second teaser offering the first official glimpse of the production-spec pickup. Unlike a simple Scorpio N converted into a pickup, the Scorpio Pikup gets a distinct exterior design while retaining the rugged character associated with the Scorpio family.The pickup gets a double-cab body and a large cargo bed, with the front featuring slim LED headlamps flanked by L-shaped LED daytime running lights. The bumper houses vertically stacked LED fog lamps, while the upright grille features a hexagonal pattern and Mahindra’s logo. A camera below the logo also hints at a 360-degree camera system.At the rear, the Scorpio Pikup gets C-shaped LED tail-lights and large Mahindra lettering across the tailgate. The teaser also reveals newly designed alloy wheels and the pickup’s substantial proportions. Inside, Mahindra appears to have focused on making the Scorpio Pikup more premium than conventional utility-focused pickups. The cabin gets a large portrait-oriented touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. Rotary controls for the dual-zone climate control and a dedicated drive-mode selector are also visible.The pickup is expected to borrow several features from the Scorpio N, including Level 2 ADAS, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, ventilated and powered front seats, and driver drowsiness detection.Scorpio Pikup to use Scorpio N platform The new pickup will be based on the Scorpio N’s platform, but Mahindra has stretched the wheelbase to accommodate the larger cargo bed. The longer wheelbase will distinguish the pickup from the SUV while potentially improving its utility and stability.Mahindra is yet to reveal the final dimensions, but the production model is expected to be offered with a double-cab configuration. A more utilitarian version could also be introduced later for commercial applications.Diesel engine and 4WD expectedWhile the final powertrain details will be announced tomorrow, the Scorpio Pikup is expected to use Mahindra’s mHawk diesel engine. It is likely to be offered with six-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.Four-wheel drive is expected to be a key part of the pickup’s package. Mahindra had previously showcased selectable driving modes for Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand conditions, highlighting the model’s focus on off-road capability.The production Scorpio Pikup will make its global debut on August 14. Mahindra is expected to reveal details about its engine, dimensions, variants and market availability at the event.
