This robot vacuum just made premium mopping easier to afford

There’s no shortage of affordable cleaning robots, but the best robot vacuums can get expensive once you start piling on the fancy features. Narwal’s latest robot vacuum aims to deliver some of those features for less.The company only started selling the $1,099.99 Narwal Freo 20 last month, but it’s already back with a cheaper alternative. Unveiled at IFA 2026, the Freo 20 Edge drops the price to $799.99 while keeping several of its pricier siblings’ headline cleaning features.The interesting part is that Narwal hasn’t simply built a basic robot and stripped away the good stuff. According to the company, the Freo 20 Edge still delivers 31,000Pa of suction and uses the FlowWash-style track-mopping technology found on more premium robots. Similar to the pricier Freo 20, its mop uses 16 nozzles to continuously circulate clean water while a wiper removes dirt in real time.It also applies 12N of downward pressure and can extend the mop by up to 4.8cm to reach along walls and into corners. It also includes a zero-tangle floating roller brush, plus a detangling side brush for hair.So, what did Narwal leave out to get the price down?Some premium tricks didn’t make the cut For starters, the Narwal Freo 20 Edge doesn’t have the Freo 20’s dual RGB cameras and 300-plus object recognition. Instead, it uses hidden dToF LiDAR and structured-light obstacle avoidance, with support for recognizing more than 150 object types. That’s still plenty of sensing for avoiding furniture and other obstacles, but it’s a step down from the more advanced camera-based system.Narwal Freo 20 Edge obstacle avoidanceThe Edge also swaps the Freo 20’s premium hot-water approach for room-temperature, real-time mop cleaning. It still automatically washes the mop, cleans the dirty-water tank, and dries the mop with 45°C hot air. The dock also holds a 2.5L dust bag for up to 120 days of hands-free dust storage.So while the Edge isn’t a dramatically cheaper version of the Freo 20, it does offer a more affordable way into much of the same cleaning technology. The biggest differences are in areas such as sensing and mopping temperature, rather than the core vacuuming and mopping hardware.A cordless vacuum designed to do more of the workNarwal is also introducing the V50 Cube, a cordless vacuum meant to make everyday cleaning less tiring. According to Narwal, the vacuum weighs 1.4kg and can lie flat to reach under beds and sofas. You can also push it into the dock without lifting it.The dock handles much of the maintenance, and you can spot it in the far right corner of the image below. Narwal says it automatically empties the vacuum into a 3L dust bag that can hold up to 100 days of debris. It also cleans the brush to deal with tangled hair and stores the vacuum’s accessories. The company says its filtration system uses two H13 HEPA filters to capture fine particles.For cleaning, the V50 Cube has 210AW of suction. Narwal says its AI DirtSense system can automatically adjust suction based on how much dirt it detects, while CarpetFocus increases cleaning power on carpets. A separate anti-tangle system is designed to prevent hair from wrapping around the vacuum.A wet-and-dry vacuum that adds steamThe other new addition is a flagship wet-and-dry vacuum with a bigger focus on tackling tough messes. According to Narwal, it combines 25,000Pa suction with 95°C hot-water mopping and 400°C steam. Narwal also says the vacuum uses a tangle-free brush and offers four cleaning modes, including AI Smart, Steam, and Hot Water. It can lie flat to reach under furniture and clean along three sides of the head for better edge coverage.The dock handles the cleanup afterward. Narwal says it uses steam and hot water to clean the vacuum, then dries it with 90°C heat and hot air. There’s an Essential version, which drops the steam feature but still offers 25,000Pa suction, 20N of downward pressure, and a hair-removal system. Its dock can also automatically clean and dry the vacuum.The Freo 20 Edge will cost $799.99, but Narwal is offering it for $699.99 from September 7 to September 20 as part of a limited-time launch deal.
