‘This is a huge, HUGE upset’ – Disbelief as 1-33 Najidi Storm becomes shortest-priced loser in British racing history

The Harry Charlton-trained Juddmonte three-year-old colt was sent off ridiculously short odds under Lewis Edmunds. Najidi Storm, in the famous Juddmonte silks, comes home second and with it lands the unwanted title of racing’s shortest-ever loser having been sent off 1-33 But he was overturned in one of the sport’s greatest ever upsets by 10-1 Wreck It Ronnie in a three-runner race over 1m2f. Najidi Storm, a full brother by Frankel to former St Leger winner St Logician, arrived at the Sussex track on the back of a promising debut win. But he went into the record books for all the wrong reasons after getting bogged down in the rain-sodden ground. The title of shortest-priced loser previously belonged to two horses, most recently the William Haggas-trained Doom. He was turned over at 1-25 when ridden by Tom Marquand at Ripon in September 2023. Doom jointly held the record with Royal Forest, who was beaten at the same odds at Ascot 78 years ago. Wreck It Ronnie had been beaten a combined 22-and-a-half lengths in his first two races, finishing sixth and seventh at Kempton. But he looked to relish the Goodwood ground, hitting the front eight furlongs out under jockey Kieran Fox and sticking to the task well.
