This 4:3 retro monitor could be the perfect display for my old-school gaming setup

It's not a true CRT and lacks built-in CRT filters. The ULW10 is launching on Kickstarter. It seems promising, but at the same time is a bit sketchy. For several years now, I've been thinking about digging my retro video game consoles out of storage and setting one up in my relatively small home office. One of the key things that's stopped me is the fact that I don't have a small TV lying around that I can easily place on a desk without taking up too much space. This is where the upcoming "retro-inspired" ULW10 Traveller comes in. Made by Unico USA, a company with a history of producing modern arcade cabinets, the 10-inch LCD TV is compact, utilitarian, and clearly features a throwback, CRT-inspired design. Its shell even includes physical buttons and storage at the back for retro consoles. Oh, and there are side grips for easy transport. The overall design kind of reminds me of a pint-sized Commodore 64 monitor. Other key features include RGB, VGA, and HDMI ports, allowing the screen to work with a wide variety of old-school consoles. Unfortunately, there aren't composite or AV inputs, which is a bit of a bummer, but it makes sense given the monitor's size. At launch, the ULW10 will be available in three colors: Cream White, Studio Grey, and Red & White. To be clear, this isn't true CRT monitor There also don't seem to be any built-in filters Credit: Unico USA One key issue is that because the ULW10 doesn't feature a CRT display, it won't offer the authentic throwback look that many retro gamers (including me) are looking for. Unfortunately, it also doesn't seem to include built-in software for CRT filters, so those will need to be handled at the console level and will only work if you're emulating games or using a retro-rival console like the M64 or SNES Mini. It's worth noting that Unico USA, the company behind the ULW10, is using some very odd-looking AI-generated lifestyle photos on its Kickstarter page, which doesn't exactly make me feel very good about the monitor. The ULW10's Kickstarter campaign hasn't started yet, but you can sign up to be notified when it launches. With that in mind, we don't know how much the ULW10 will cost or when it will release.
