Eight people were killed at a railway station outside Kyiv after a delayed train left them waiting there when a Russian strike hit overnight, a local official said Wednesday. Bihun said three more people remained unaccounted for and about 12 were receiving emergency treatment in hospital. The casualty toll could rise as search and rescue operations continued. The railway station was among at least five locations heavily damaged across the Brovary district. Russian strikes also hit food distribution companies, warehouses, residential buildings and a major freight hub where firefighters were still battling a large blaze Wednesday morning. The attack formed part of Russia’s third massive aerial assault on Kyiv and its surrounding region in a week. At least 17 people were killed across the capital and Kyiv region, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Russia launched 28 missiles and 115 attack drones overnight, concentrating the barrage on the Kyiv region, Ukraine’s Air Force said. The weapons included 24 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and four Zircon or Oniks missiles. In Kyiv’s Obolonskyi district, a strike hit a Nova Poshta sorting center, killing two drivers working for a transport partner and one contractor employee, the Ukrainian postal company said. Eight other people were injured. In Holosiivskyi district, part of a private house was destroyed, leaving people trapped beneath the rubble. Another strike damaged equipment at an industrial facility and caused an ammonia leak, which emergency crews later contained. Repeated explosions at one impact site damaged an ambulance and injured its driver, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The Brovary district also suffered strikes on logistics facilities, including food distributor Fozzy Food, according to Bihun. Numerous residential buildings were damaged, though authorities were still assessing the full extent of the destruction. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had targeted logistics facilities supporting Ukraine’s military. Ukrainian officials rejected that claim, saying the barrage hit homes, civilian businesses, warehouses and a railway station. The attack came only days after Russian drones repeatedly struck a major distribution center belonging to Ukrainian online retailer Rozetka in Brovary.
