These five videos DO NOT show Satya Niketan building collapse

At least seven people have died after a five-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on September 6.Several videos claiming to show the collapse have gone viral on social media. In this story, we are debunking five such clips.1.Reverse-searching keyframes from this video led us to an ABP News video report published on November 10, 2017. It featured visuals of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi demolishing the same building from three different angles. Reportedly, the four-storey building in Delhi’s Jasola area was illegal and had developed cracks. We also found the video published by the YouTube Channel Main Media on November 10, 2017.2. We found reports about this video published by Dainik Bhaskar and Jagran on September 5. According to them, a dilapidated building collapsed on September 5 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The building belonged to a man named Sarfaraz Ali. According to an ANI report published on September 6, the Moradabad district administration had sealed the building a day before the collapse.3. This video is AI-generated. The shop’s name in the video is gibberish, a common inconsistency found in synthetic media. We also found the video posted by an Instagram account called “sirrixai” on September 6. The account clearly stated in the caption that the video was AI-generated. The account also mentioned that it is a “fictional visual reconstruction” and not actual footage of a building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan.4.This video shows the collapse of a building in the Lakkasandra locality of Bengaluru, Karnataka. According to reports published by the Hindustan Times and The Times of India on September 27, 2021, this three-storey building housed labourers constructing the Bengaluru Metro. No casualties or injuries were reported, as the occupants rushed out minutes before the collapse.5.This video is also synthetic. It has several discrepancies, such as people right in front of the building being motionless during and after the collapse. The detection tool, Hive Moderation, noted with 97 per cent confidence that the video is AI-generated.It’s noteworthy that as of 6 pm on September 7, the actual video of the building in Satya Niketan collapsing had not surfaced.
