These Brits had never heard of Trader Joe's — watch them try its most popular snacks

A YouTube video posted by BuzzFeed UK spotlighted a panel of British reviewers from First Timers Today trying Trader Joe’s products for the first time.In Part 1 of this series, the team tried the chain’s most popular snacks and while some snacks were merely okay — or less than appetizing — others burst with flavor.In a surprising detail, some reviewers never heard of the grocer. “Up until like two weeks ago, when you told me we were doing this video, I never heard of them,” Brydie admitted, to which Dean Webster responded, “You’ve never heard of Trader Joe’s?”“I don’t even know what it is,” Dev shared, referring to Trader Joe’s, to which Sepi exclaimed, “Oh really?”After being shown the chain’s viral tote bag, the team moved on to its most beloved snacks.First up was Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips Chili & Lime Flavored, and though many were eyeing the package with reluctance, the snack prompted a strong reaction.“It’s an explosion in the mouth,” Dev said. “It’s like really overpowering lime. It may be doing too much,” Brydie added. “It’s overly seasoned,” Ada said. “It’s delicious though,” Webster added. Two reviewers said pairing the chips with sour cream would elevate them. While some gave the snack a 10 out of 10 or an 8 out of 10, others gave it a 6 or a 4. The snack had an average score of 7.3. Second was Snacky Clusters, which were described as sea-salt potato chips, corn-chip dippers and mini-pretzel nuggets mixed in milk chocolate. The snack was also met with a great deal of reluctance and a strong reaction. “It was a nice mixture of sweet and salty,” Brydie said. “You can’t really taste anything other than this like vague, random chocolate flavor. It’s not really flavored,” Brian shared. Despite the mixed reaction, the snack averaged 5.7, though some rated it a four, a seven and even a nine.The team then tried Kettle Corn, which the group likened to standard popcorn. It contains four main ingredients: popcorn, sunflower oil, sugar and salt. “I don’t taste any salt though,” Sepi shared.“It does taste lighter. I don’t know, is it less dense?” Brydie asked. “I kind of do want more saltiness though,” Sepi said.“Just give me the salt,” Ada declared. Some rated the snack a 7, while most of the group gave it a 5. The snack had an average score of 5.7.The team then tried Crispy Crunchy Okra, which listed its ingredients as okra, rice bran oil, and salt. “Ah, it smells amazing,” Ada noted. “I like it,” Sepi said.“Oh my God. It tastes like seaweed,” Dev said. “This is like the answer to the problem seaweed as a snack,” Ben said.When Ada asked what was wrong with seaweed, to Ben, seaweed doesn’t have enough body. “I like the idea of like snacking on but realistically, I’m not paying £1.50 for like essentially something that I can barely feel when it’s in my mouth,” he noted. “But for the same sort of thing, its quite airy, very like non-descript, but you can just munch on them. This has that,” he added. Others agreed with the sentiment.“This is the kind of snack I would not feel bad for eating,” Brydie shared.“It needs seasoning on there,” Dev said, to which Ada agreed, “A little bit of paprika. Just to add that little zing in it.”The snack rating varied, but mostly received positive reviews of an 8, a 9, and even a 10.
