Just when you thought ex-Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor had been rightly stripped of pretty much every royal perk going, it turns out there’s one rather major privilege he’s reportedly still hanging onto.Despite King Charles removing his younger brother’s remaining royal titles in October 2025, Andrew is apparently still on a confidential government list of royals who will receive high-profile ceremonial funerals when they die.According to the Daily Mail, these meticulously prepared arrangements are known as “bridge plans,” with each royal’s funeral plan named after a famous UK bridge. Queen Elizabeth II’s, for example, was Operation London Bridge.Andrew’s reported plans could see his funeral held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, before he is buried at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, on a secluded Windsor estate.Royal Navy officers may also reportedly be asked to volunteer as pallbearers, owing to Andrew’s previous naval service.Add Cosmopolitan as a preferred source in your Google search results.Use your Google account to add this to your settings.Pool//Getty ImagesUnsurprisingly, the revelation has sparked backlash. Conservative MP Joe Robertson said public money “should not bankroll” the funeral, while former minister Norman Baker argued Andrew is now a “commoner” and should not receive a royal send-off.Nine survivors of Jeffrey Epstein, the late disgraced sex offender with whom Andrew maintained a friendship, have issued a statement via lawyer Spencer Kuvin, saying, “Taxpayers should not ever be funding a funeral for a private individual. No public money should be used to benefit him during death. It’s an embarrassment to the Crown.”Lawyer Gloria Allred, who represented over 20 survivors, also condemned the plans. “Andrew has brought disgrace upon the Royal Family and the UK as a result of his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. Under these circumstances, the question arises as to why this man should be afforded the honor of a royal funeral. What kind of message would such a ceremony send to Epstein’s victims? Additionally, why should UK taxpayers bear the burden of paying his expenses either in life or after his death?”Buckingham Palace has not commented on the reported funeral arrangements.
