The Witcher is preparing its fifth and final season, and if Netflix decides to stay true to the books, this season will see a major and unexpected crossover. Netflix has a good variety of original fantasy shows, some now found among the best TV shows of all time, and one of its biggest and most popular titles to date is The Witcher. Based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher premiered on Netflix in 2019 to great success. The Witcher saw a decline in its second season due to unexpected changes to the source material, and since then, the show has done its best to fix those mistakes. After facing a huge shake-up in season 4 with Liam Hemsworth taking over as Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher finally found its path again, right on time for its final season. The Witcher is set to end with season 5, and it has its most interesting but also darkest stories ahead. At the end of The Witcher season 4, Geralt continues his journey to find Ciri (Freya Allan), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) forms the Lodge of Sorceresses, and Ciri is taken by Leo Bonhart (Sharlot Copley) after he brutally kills the Rats. With two more books to cover, The Witcher season 5 has many key stories to address, and if the show stays true to the source material, it will have a crossover with the Arthurian legends. The Witcher Season 5 Can Introduce The Legendary Galahad Warning: potential spoilers for Netflix’s The Witcher season 5. The Witcher season 4 covered the book Baptism of Fire and part of The Tower of the Swallow, leaving the rest of the latter and the novel The Lady of the Lake for season 5 to cover. With this in mind, and as mentioned above, The Witcher season 5 is about to see the darkest stories, as in the source material, Ciri fights for her life in a gladiatorial arena, barely escapes from Bonhart, and faces her father, the White Flame, who has disturbing plans for her. All this would make The Witcher season 5 the show’s darkest season, but it would also make way for a wild and unexpected crossover (that, of course, for those unfamiliar with the books). At the beginning of The Lady of the Lake, Ciri meets Sir Galahad, the greatest of King Arthur’s knights. Ciri tells him what happened since she crossed to an alternate reality at the end of The Tower of the Swallow, including her return, her meeting with her father, and the fate of Geralt and Yennefer. At the end of the novel, and thus the end of Ciri’s story in the book series, Galahad invites her to Camelot, and so they ride together to the legendary castle. The Witcher and the Arthurian legends are definitely an unexpected crossover, but it adds some richness to the former while also giving Ciri an exciting and potentially better future after everything she goes through in the Continent and beyond. The Witcher Season 4 Already Set Up The Show’s Arthurian Crossover While The Witcher’s crossover with the Arthurian legends ultimately depends on Netflix following the events of the final novel, the path is already set thanks to one character. The Witcher season 4 introduced Nimue (Sha Dessi), a young storyteller obsessed with Ciri’s story. Nimue goes on to become a sorceress from Aretuza and the Lady of the Lake, as she’s actually a character who comes from the Arthurian legends. In the legends, the title of “Lady of the Lake” is used by different characters, one of them Nimue. As such, Nimue is a key character in The Lady of the Lake and will surely be one too in The Witcher season 5, so the show has already started its crossover with the Arthurian legends. Season 5, then, could be the show’s biggest season if Netflix chooses the stories and characters wisely. With two novels left to cover and a limited number of episodes, The Witcher is surely facing a huge challenge in season 5, but if done well, it can be the exciting closure the show deserves.
