However, according to new reports, it has now been delayed. What's On Netflix noted that the show was originally featured in press materials at the top of the year for the Netflix's Next on Netflix campaign, but has since been scrubbed from promotional websites. So, the outlet "did a little digging" and checked with its sources, and was told that season five had been pushed back, meaning that it will now undergo over a year of post-production and release sometime in 2027 instead. There is no specific release window for 2027 yet, nor has Netflix issued a public statement. No Reason Has Been Given For The Delay It's unclear why the final season has been delayed (series showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich herself just recently said that the plan was 2026), but What's On Netflix speculates that it could be due to the VFX and other post-production work required, or simply to bolster next year's lineup of original series. The back half of 2026 is, after all, stacked with plenty of new releases. Netflix confirmed all the way back in 2024 that season five would be the last, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt from Henry Cavill for the final stretch. The show will continue with an adaptation of the final two Andrzej Sapkowski novels, The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake, introducing characters like Shani. While it might be disappointing to hear that the wait for The Witcher's conclusion is even further out of reach, at the very least, releasing in 2027 now means that the final season will coincide with the launch of The Witcher 3's new expansion, Songs of the Past.
