His last novel, Crossroads of Ravens (or Rozdroże kruków in Sapkowski’s native tongue), was released in 2024, with an English translation following last year. This novel was a prequel focused on a teenage Geralt fresh out of Kaer Morhen, much like Season of Storms plugged the gap between earlier short stories. As reported by o2 Poland, while Sapkowski “in theory” should finish his new Witcher book by the end of next year, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be released in 2027 as “everything could change.” Not to mention that an English release will inevitably take more time, likely landing a year later. However, 2027 does appear to be the goal right now, though no details on the book itself have been shared. Why A Sequel Is Off The Table We can at least surmise that it won’t be a sequel, so don’t expect this new novel to step on the toes of the games (which take place after The Lady of the Lake). In a 2011 interview with The World of Fantasy magazine, Sapkowski even flat-out said, “This story is completed, there is nothing to add to it, it’s like an anecdote: The last phrase is basta (‘that’s enough; stop it!’). But I can always go back to The Witcher theme, no one will tell me I Should not or can not do it. I want to do it.” It’s impossible to speculate on what avenue Sapkowski might take with the novel, but another prequel or spin-off is the most likely outcome. And if the last few books are anything to go by, there will no doubt be a few interesting reveals to dig through, like Geralt being younger than most assumed. Otherwise, there’s The Witcher 3 remaster to look forward to, launching on September 29 as a free upgrade for existing owners, and the new expansion, Songs of the Past, also due in 2027.
