Super Mario Galaxy and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 were both 100 percent decompiled for the first time last week, and Halo: Combat Evolved made its way to PC in the form of a fully working browser version. Now fans of The Witcher and walking can rejoice: a fan project reviving a now-forgotten Witcher title, The Witcher: Monster Slayer, is nearing completion and is now available for download on certain mobile devices. The Witcher: Monster Slayer Is Once Again Downloadable On Your Mobile Device The Witcher: Monster Slayer launched on July 21, 2021. It came at a time when many franchises were trying to replicate the success that Pokemon Go had seen a few years earlier. Monster Slayer followed a similar premise to Go, letting players explore their real-world surroundings to hunt monsters as a Witcher. Monsters from ten different categories and three different tiers would appear depending on the time of day and your physical surroundings. The game built a loyal fanbase in its two years, but that wasn't enough to keep it going, and developer Spokko said it didn't meet business expectations, closing it on June 30, 2023. This news inevitably upset the audience the game had, and since its closure, fans have been working to revive the title. That work has now come to fruition, and a version of The Witcher: Monster Slayer is now available to download on Android devices. It's still in the early stages, and its creators are suggesting it's in the Alpha phase, but it works. In a post online, they said, "The game works fully offline, and has almost every feature working as intended (the only exception being the shop, for obvious reasons, and the multiplayer features with an asterisk)." There are some small caveats, though. To install the game, you previously had to have Monster Slayer downloaded via your Google account. It also takes between 6 and 10 GB to download, and "things will definitely break." It seems that, while not perfect yet, preservation has prevailed, and fans can once again step into the shoes of a Witcher and fight monsters in their neighborhoods.
