The Witcher 4 Reveals Official Release Window

The Witcher 4 is probably the exception though, as while we know that an expansion for The Witcher 3 is launching next year, probably setting up The Witcher 4 in some way, we don't actually know when the fourth proper installment is dropping. With Gamescom Opening Night Live on the horizon, and CD Projekt Red expected to have a big presence there, it was definitely smart of the studio to get ahead of any rumors about The Witcher 4 popping up. Unfortunately, it won't be there, but CD Projekt Red has made up for the game's absence by revealing the official release window in a new developer update. In a video posted to the official Witcher Twitter account, CD Projekt Red joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski revealed The Witcher 4's official release window. After a bit of talk about Gamescom itself and The Witcher 3's upcoming expansion, Nowakowski reveals that The Witcher 4 is targeting a release in 2028. He then acknowledges that it's a hefty wait, but promises that it will be worth it and to "let the team cook." Of course, that release window means a couple of things. For starters, we're probably looking at yet another two years before the game actually releases, if it actually meets its targets. Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed a bunch before it eventually made its way onto store shelves, so there's no guarantee that The Witcher 4 will meet it's 2028 target. However, one thing that is guaranteed is that this means we won't be getting a physical release for The Witcher 4 when it eventually drops. PlayStation is halting the manufacturing of discs for all games past January 2028, so it's now pretty much certain that the fourth game in The Witcher series will be an all-digital affair. A disappointment for sure, but not totally unexpected.
