The Witcher 3 Officially Returns August 20 With New DLC

The Witcher 3's Geralt Returns August 20 For New Collab Published Aug 17, 2026, 6:13 AM EDT James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC. The Witcher 3 might have released over a decade ago at this point, but it's back in the public consciousness in a big way right now. The announcement that the game was about to get another legitimate complete story DLC was a genuinely exciting moment, and there are thousands of players waiting in the wings to see what CD Projekt Red has been cooking up. Though we haven't been treated to a full reveal just yet, that is supposedly designed to bridge the narrative gap between the last game and the upcoming release of The Witcher 4, which will be fronted by Ciri. Before what might be Geralt's final appearance in the franchise, he is also about to pop up somewhere entirely different, joining a long pantheon of game characters who have made the journey before him. As first reported by ComicBook, Fortnite is about to drop what is easily one of its most ambitious seasons yet in Chapter 7 Season 4’s Override. Rather than dialing in on one particular franchise, this time around they're setting their sights on the world of video games as a whole, bringing in some beloved faces along the way. As part of that, the key artwork for the season revealed many of the characters who are set to appear, with Geralt of Rivia set to take center stage once again. Not only that, but he'll be joined by Lara Croft, Ryu, Master Chief, and Sora, all of whom will be showing up in some capacity. At the same time, key franchises included in the collaboration will also be used to design map elements, with Sonic the Hedgehog's Green Hill Zone definitely set to feature in some capacity. There is also a Pac-Man-inspired area for players to explore, and further appearances by characters like Mega Man and Eggman in the trailer. Chapter 7 Season 4, of Fortnite, currently titled Override, will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, iOS, and Android on August 20, with the chapter tentatively expected to end in December of this year. As for Geralt, his last DLC as the protagonist of The Witcher series is currently titled Songs of the Past, and we don't have a release date for it just yet, beyond the fact that it's coming in 2027. Until then, we might expect to get more information at Gamescom later this month, though developer CD Projekt Red may also wait for their own dedicated moment for a full reveal.
