Development on a new season of HBO Max's acclaimed medical drama was confirmed just one day before its predecessor premiered, with plans to shift the story from the July 4th weekend to November. The Pitt season 3 has also found itself shaking up a lot with its cast roster, with the Emergency Department notably losing a few faces, while others were promoted for bigger roles in the show's next season. Now, as reported by Deadline, HBO Max has cast seven new stars for The Pitt season 3 in various recurring guest roles. This new list includes The Last of Us franchise vet Stephen Chang, The Madison's Barry Clifton, The Lincoln Lawyer's Chris Diamantopoulos, Criminal's Lawrence Kao, Justified's Brent Sexton, The Adventures of Cliff Booth's JB Tadena and The First's Hannah Ware. In addition to their casting, the first character details have been revealed for The Pitt season 3's newcomers. Chang, Clifton, Kao, Sexton and Ware are all set to play patients in the eponymous Emergency Department, though details of their respective cases have not yet been shared, while Diamantopoulos is set to play the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's CMO Dr. Asher Grossman, and Tadena will be joining as Dr. Reed Thomas, a physician at the hospital. The new Pitt season 3 casting update comes just over a month after HBO Max similarly added a slew of stars to the show's roster, both as patients and as doctors. This included Superman alum Pruitt Taylor Vince, The Sex Lives of College Girls' Cheyenne Perez, A House of Dynamite's Malachi Beasley, and The L Word: Generation Q's Rosanny Zayas, among others. As for the main roster, The Pitt season 3 has confirmed the majority of its players will be back for its 2027 season, including executive producer Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif and Gerran Howell. Shawn Hatosy is set to continue his recurring run on the series as fan-favorite Dr. Jack Abbot, while Shabana Azeez will be back as Victoria Javadi, albeit not in the ED as she works on her psychiatry rotation, and Ayesha Harris' Dr. Parker Ellis is being promoted to a series regular role. REVEAL MY SCORE → Pittsburgh Presbyterian · Shift Complete Your ER Record 🩺 / 8 Chief of medicine — or still in pre-med? ↻ CLOCK IN AGAIN Despite the show's praise, though, The Pitt season 3 has also been under fire the past four months after it was revealed Supriya Ganesh would not be returning as Dr. Samira Mohan. Wyle recently tried to assuage the concerns regarding her exit and the various other casting changes in the new season, acknowledging that the show's creative team is "doing the best we can" to find ways to sensitively handle every character's arc and potential exits, which he also said will be "inevitable" in the show's future. While plot details may not have been shared for the new stars, one of the more notable takeaways from The Pitt season 3's casting update is Diamantopoulos' appearance as the PTMC's Chief Medical Officer, essentially the lead manager for the entire hospital. Season 2 memorably left off with Wyle's Dr. Robby threatening to out Moafi's Dr. Al-Hashimi to management regarding her seizure disorder if she didn't tell them herself, which could explain the CMO having a role in season 3. However, with Wyle also teasing the new episodes will see Robby grappling with some of his demons, his behavior may ultimately come under scrutiny from on high.
