The Opener: Brewers Dominate, Rays On Brink, Lindor Wins Clemente Award

The Brewers haven’t lost in three weeks. They can set the record for the longest postseason winning streak with a victory tonight. 1. Brewers crush Rays in Game 3 Tampa Bay was so close to being out of that fifth inning. Christian Yelich was initially ruled out at second on a fielder’s choice. Replay overturned the call, and the floodgates opened. Six straight hits put the Brewers up 10-0. Robert Gasser cruised through six innings in yet another tremendous playoff start. Brandon Woodruff, making his first appearance since early July, recorded the final three outs. Milwaukee will have four shots to secure the title. The way the series has gone, it might only take one. 2. Rays facing elimination Right-hander Freddy Peralta had allowed a total of five earned runs over his last 10 appearances heading into Monday’s start. He was charged with five earned runs last night. Peralta wasn’t especially sharp, walking three and permitting seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He left with the bases loaded, and all of those runners came around to score. The Rays will turn to Griffin Jax to save their season tonight. Jax took the loss in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Guardians. He’s allowed four earned runs over six innings in the playoffs. 3. Lindor wins Roberto Clemente Award Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was selected as the 2026 recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award on Monday. The honor recognizes the philanthropic efforts of one player every season. Lindor has several charitable initiatives, including financial support for disaster relief in Puerto Rico and a partnership with New Balance to provide school supplies for students. “Sometimes, us athletes can be seen like we’re so far away from the general public,” Lindor told reporters, including Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. “But we’re not. We are in the communities. We are giving back. We are helping. Hopefully, this is going to give me a bigger platform to continue to help.” Photo courtesy of Jovanny Hernandez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel via Imagn Images View Comments (6)
