‘The Odyssey’ 70mm Imax Run Extended Yet Again

The Christopher Nolan epic now has additional showtimes for Imax 70mm locations through the end of September. This will stretch The Odyssey‘s Imax run into an 11th week. The film — the first theatrical release to be shot entirely with Imax cameras — is the highest-grossing Imax release of all time, having made $457 million across Imax screens globally. Imax 70mm screenings — Nolan’s preferred format — have earned $66 million worldwide, resulting in a $1.6 million per screen average. Thanks to The Odyssey (and an average ticket price of $20.58), July and August marked the two biggest months in Imax history. The Odyssey is currently also the second-highest grossing movie of the year, behind only Marvel-Sony’s blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, having made $1.55 billion and counting. Other records set by the fantastical drama so far: The Odyssey is the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time and Nolan’s top-grossing movie ever. It also marks the highest-grossing movie globally for stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson. The Odyssey adapts Homer’s epic poem in telling the story of Odysseus (Damon) making his way home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. It is expected to be major contender in the Oscars race.
