Sign in to your ScreenRant account A fantasy film that seems like a perfect watch for Dungeons & Dragons fans is on the horizon following its movie license being acquired, setting the stage for another release that delves into the infinite potential of fantasy stories. Over the years, fantasy films have remained a space wherein breathtaking worlds have been rendered in painstaking detail, allowing audiences to feel fully transported to the likes of Narnia or Middle-Earth throughout their viewing experience. Naturally, this has made the world of fantasy movies a prime one for Dungeons & Dragons fans, both in terms of helping inspire new stories and adventures, and in terms of providing some of the same feeling of being lost in this kind of universe that is oftentimes a prime goal for the tabletop game itself. While there are official Dungeons & Dragons movies, there are still only four live-action releases in the series to date, with many of them having divided even D&D fans on whether they're enjoyable films or not. As such, it's even more interesting to note that one of the newest fantasy projects announced seems like a perfect fit for those who love D&D. A D'Orc Movie Is On The Horizon Deadline has reported that, in October 2026, Sony Pictures acquired the licensing to make a live-action movie adapting the D'Orc comic series, which follows the titular half-orc, half-dwarf hero, and his efforts to help the world despite being prophecized to end it. The D'Orc series has garnered popularity for some solid reasons, with its world and story affectionately poking fun at the kind of fantasy tropes and trends that series like The Lord of the Rings popularized, while also being an interesting narrative and universe in its own right. Of course, this makes the prospect of a live-action fantasy film adaptation a promising premise by itself. With that said, given the road the series walks, it's also one that seems interesting for D&D fans in particular, especially in terms of the meta moments that pop up throughout the original comic narrative, and are likely to be adapted in the film world as well. Why A D'Orc Movie Already Seems Perfect For D&D Fans Much of the appeal of many D&D games around the world revolves around encouraging player creativity, and balancing playing fantasy tropes and character trends straight, while also subverting them when possible to keep players on their toes. The D'Orc comic story works on much the same level, with its central protagonist intentionally being a contrast to the usual golden chosen one figure that crops up in this kind of fantasy story. Instead, D'Orc is a more well-meaning figure who is trying to avoid his own seeming destiny, and is willing to make enemies of good and evil in order to do so. This setup is one that feels like something right out of an engaging D&D character's arc and campaign, meaning the movie already looks to be a perfect match for D&D fans when it finally hits our screens - especially since we don't have an official D&D follow-up film impending at this point in time, meaning there's a natural void there for fantasy film fans to fill with other releases like this one.
