Credit: Amazon/Lifehacker Table of Contents Amazon has cut the price of its latest Fire TV Stick 4K in half, dropping it to $29.99 from $59.99 and bringing it to its lowest price ever, according to price trackers, with a 90-day free trial of Amazon Music included in the purchase. At this price, it's an affordable way to bring 4K streaming to an older television or give a sluggish smart TV a performance upgrade. And because this streaming stick measures just 3.6 inches and draws power directly from your TV's USB port using the included cable, it can sit out of sight behind your screen without taking up another wall outlet. Despite its small size, it supports 4K streaming over Wi-Fi 6, along with HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG for improved contrast and color on compatible televisions. What you don't get is Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos audio. If either is important to your home theater setup, the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, currently $39.99, is worth considering for the extra $10. Otherwise, there's little to complain about when it comes to performance, with PCMag reporting that apps respond almost instantly and 4K streams load quickly with almost no blurry, low-resolution moments. What do you think so far? The redesigned Alexa voice remote is another improvement, with a more comfortable shape, an easier-to-find home button, and dedicated shortcuts for major streaming services. You can also use Alexa to search for shows, launch apps, or control compatible smart home devices. The software experience is less impressive, with advertisements and recommendations dominating the home screen, leaving relatively little room for your actual apps. There's also no support for Apple AirPlay or Google Cast, so sharing content directly from your phone isn't particularly convenient. Still, if you're comfortable with Amazon's interface and don't need the missing Dolby formats, the Fire TV Stick 4K delivers responsive streaming and a useful remote for just $30.
