The most attractive Coronation Street stars EVER, according to science – and Helen Flanagan isn’t on the list

AFTER decades of explosive rivalries, and unforgettable cobbles romance, Coronation Street is one of the most beloved British soaps of all time. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, a select group of stars have been crowned the best-looking cast members over the soap’s 11,900 plus episodes – according to science. After analysing the Corrie casts’ facial features, Dr Omar Tillo at the CREO Clinic has revealed the top six most beautiful stars ever, by using the ‘Golden Ratio’. And while you may have expected the undeniably attractive Helen Flanagan and Ryan Thomas to be among the mix, think again. More on Coronation Street Also known as Phi, the Golden Ratio was developed by the ancient Greeks over 2,000 years ago, and it is a formula designed to identify beautiful proportions in nature. To find out how each of the reality stars compares, the Harley Street expert analysed several aspects of the celebs’ faces, including overall face length-to-width proportion, eye spacing, nose length-to-width proportion and vertical facial balance. Other key features that were carefully scrutinised included facial thirds, mouth-to-nose proportion and lower-face-to-midface balance. “Each measurement was compared against its predefined proportional benchmark, including Golden Ratio-derived targets of approximately 1.618 where applicable and balance targets of 1.0 for measurements assessing proportional equality or symmetry,” Dr. Omar told us. Most read in Fabulous “Each component received an alignment score based on how closely the observed measurement matched its respective benchmark. “The nine scores were then combined using a consistent predefined weighting system to produce an overall Golden Ratio Alignment Score for each qualifying contestant.” Despite their obvious good looks, none of the current cast made the top six – but here’s how the other stars from previous series scored… 1. Michelle Keegan – 84.7% The ‘most attractive’ Corrie star was found to be Michelle Keegan Unsurprisingly, Michelle Keegan, who famously won FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World title in 2015, took the top spot when analysed by the Golden Ratio. Starring as the iconic Tina McIntyre from 2008 to 2014, Michelle was found to have consistently high scores across nearly every major facial proportion measured. Dr Omar said: “Her highest individual result was her vertical facial proportions, which achieved 97.8 per cent alignment with the mathematical benchmark used in the analysis. “This indicates excellent proportional balance between the eyes, mouth and chin, creating a naturally harmonious facial structure. “Her eye spacing also performed exceptionally well, scoring 95.6 per cent, while her left-to-right facial symmetry reached 94.9 per cent. “Perfect facial symmetry does not naturally exist and should never be viewed as an aesthetic ideal, but Michelle demonstrated very little proportional variation between corresponding landmarks on either side of her face in the image analysed.” He added that Michelle, 39, who shares daughter Paloma with husband Mark Wright, achieved more than 90 per cent alignment in five separate categories while also recording one of the highest vertical proportion scores in the analysis. 2. Robert James-Collier – 83.1% Liam Connor actor Robert James-Collier gets the trophy for the second top-scoring cast member, thanks to the Golden Ratio While Robert James-Collier may be best known for playing butler Thomas Barrow in Downton Abbey, Corrie fans remember him as the charismatic factory co-owner Liam Connor. His time in Weatherfield was short and sweet (just a few seasons between 2006 and 2008) – with his main storylines being his affair with sister-in-law Carla, that triggered a feud with Tony Gordon that led to Liam being mowed down in a hit-and-run. However, despite his relatively brief stint, he has taken the crown for the most attractive male face, according to Dr Omar. The medical professional explained that Robert’s symmetry played a big part. He explained: “Perfect facial symmetry does not naturally exist and should never be considered a requirement for attractiveness, but Robert demonstrated very little proportional variation between corresponding landmarks on either side of his face in the image analysed.” He added: “Robert’s result is driven by several particularly strong proportional relationships working together rather than one individual feature dominating the analysis. “His strongest measurement was his vertical facial proportions, which achieved 97.7 per cent alignment with the mathematical benchmark used in the model. “His eye spacing also performed exceptionally well at 95 per cent, while his measured left-to-right symmetry reached 94.2 per cent. “The relationship between the eyes, nose, mouth and chin was remarkably close to the target ratio, suggesting excellent proportional balance through the central portion of the face. “His eye spacing also aligned very closely with the benchmark, creating a balanced relationship across the upper face. “His face length-to-width proportion, which achieved 84 per cent alignment, and his nose proportions, which reached 89.6 per cent, also made significant contributions to his overall result.” Dr Omar explained that while some of his remaining facial relationships sat further from the theoretical targets, this reinforces an important point: a face does not need every individual measurement to align perfectly with the Golden Ratio to achieve strong overall harmony. He added: “Robert’s result is driven by multiple well-balanced facial relationships working together rather than mathematical perfection across every category.” 3. Tina O’Brien – 83% Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, got third place, with a score of 83 per cent Tina O’Brien, 42, has grown up right before the audience’s eyes playing the endlessly chaotic Sarah Platt. After first stepping onto the Street in 1999, her character’s life has been a non-stop rollercoaster of soap opera royalty: with a teenage pregnancy at 13, narrowly surviving her serial killer stepfather Richard Hillman driving the family car into a canal, and most recently weathering a turbulent marriage to Adam Barlow. The stunning star ranked third in the Golden Ratio ratings, thanks to her “consistently strong scores across several different facial relationships”. Dr Omar explained: “Her strongest individual result was her mouth-to-nose proportion, which achieved 98.1 per cent alignment with the mathematical benchmark used in the analysis. “Her eye spacing also performed exceptionally well at 97.5 per cent, while her measured left-to-right symmetry reached 89.4 per cent. “The relationship between the width of Tina’s mouth and the width of her nose was remarkably close to the target ratio, suggesting a particularly balanced relationship between two of the most central facial features. “Similarly, her eye spacing sat very close to the ideal benchmark, producing one of the highest scores recorded within her overall analysis.” According to the professional, Tina’s “biggest mathematical departures” were in lower-to-midface balance and facial thirds, which achieved 75 per cent and 80 per cent. 4. Catherine Tyldesley – 82.9% The gorgeous Catherine Tyldesley, who stars as Eva Price, was fourth in the ranking Bringing glamorous chaos to the cobbles from 2011 to 2018, Catherine Tyldesley was unforgettable as “Eva the Diva” Price. The stunning 42-year-old came fourth in the Golden Ratio test, thanks to “particularly strong proportional balance through the centre and lower portions of the face.” Dr Omar explained: “Her vertical facial proportions achieved 95.6 per cent alignment, while both her facial thirds and lower-to-midface balance exceeded 94 per cent, making these some of her strongest individual measurements. “One of the most striking findings was the consistency of her vertical proportions. The relative positioning of the eyes, nose, mouth and chin sat very close to the mathematical benchmarks used within the model, producing a highly balanced facial profile.” According to the professional, her nose proportions also performed particularly well, achieving 85.7 per cent alignment, while her measured left-to-right symmetry reached 87.1 per cent. The largest mathematical departure, he claims, is from the relationship between facial width and mouth width, which achieved 43 per cent alignment. However, he pointed out: “This demonstrates exactly why overall facial harmony cannot be judged using one isolated measurement. “Catherine’s exceptionally strong vertical balance, facial thirds and lower-face proportions more than compensate for that single lower-scoring category, resulting in one of the highest overall Golden Ratio Alignment Scores in the study.” 5. Rob Mallard – 79.5% Rob Mallard, who is Daniel Osbourne on Corrie, came fifth with 79.5 per cent Since joining the show in 2016, 34-year-old Rob Mallard was part of the Street’s most intense drama as Daniel Osbourne. As Ken Barlow’s brooding son, Daniel was unmasked as the mysterious culprit who shoved his own father down the stairs – and delivered a tear-jerking performance during the tragic death of his young wife, Sinead, from cervical cancer. Aside from the drama, he also has a strong face, if the Golden Ratio is anything to go by. Dr Omar stated: “His strongest individual measurement was his vertical facial proportions, which achieved 99.3 per cent alignment with the mathematical benchmark used in the analysis. “His left-to-right symmetry also performed exceptionally well at 94.9 per cent, while his eye spacing reached 94.6 per cent. “The positioning of the eyes, mouth and chin was remarkably close to the target ratio, producing one of the strongest vertical proportion scores recorded within the study.” In addition to this, his mouth-to-nose relationship achieved 84.3 per cent alignment, which suggested good proportional balance between two of the face’s most central features. 6. Sair Khan – 77.9% Sair Khan, who plays Alya Nazir, got an impressive 77.9 per cent Playing the fiercely independent Alya Nazir since 2014, 38-year-old Sair Khan has also scored highly in the Golden Ratio ratings. Alya has consistently served as the moral backbone of her family, most notably stepping up to battle the twisted Geoff Metcalfe as he coercively controlled her grandmother Yasmeen. Dr Omar said her highest individual measurements were her eye spacing, which achieved 94 per cent alignment, her mouth-to-nose relationship at 93.5 per cent, and her measured left-to-right symmetry, which reached 92.7 per cent. He added: “The relationship between the width of her mouth and nose was particularly close to the mathematical benchmark, while the spacing of her eyes also aligned closely with the proportions used in the analysis. “Her vertical facial proportions also performed strongly, recording 92 per cent alignment, suggesting good proportional distribution between the upper, middle and lower sections of the face.” Although, unquestionably attractive, he found her biggest mathematical departures came in lower-to-midface balance and the relationship between facial width and mouth width. 7. Simon Gregson – 75.8% Simon Gregson, who is Steve McDonald, also was a high scorer, with 75.8 per cent You can’t talk about Coronation Street without mentioning 51-year-old Simon Gregson, who has been walking the cobbles as the lovable, gaffe-prone Steve McDonald for over 35 years. He may be the on-screen king of bad life decisions and his disastrous romantic track record, however, he is among the best-rating stars on the Golden Ratio. Dr Omar stated: “His strongest individual measurement was his vertical facial proportions, which achieved 98.1 per cent alignment with the mathematical benchmark. “His eye spacing also performed particularly well at 91.6 per cent, while his measured left-to-right symmetry reached 85 per cent.” He added: “The relationship between the eyes, mouth and chin was especially close to the target ratio, suggesting strong proportional balance through the centre and lower sections of the face. “The greatest mathematical departures came in the relationship between facial width and mouth width, which achieved 44.8 per cent alignment, and lower-to-midface balance, which reached 65.7 per cent.” Comment now
