Men say this act drives them ‘wild’ (Picture: Shutterstock / PeopleImages) Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to do anything wild to have great sex. But if you’re a woman who is keen to spice things up a little, there’s one thing you can try, which men claim never fails to impress. Beyond being a real power move in bed, it’s beneficial for women too. The act in question? Kegels. Men were recently asked to share something a woman did in bed that they still think about to this day, and one of the most popular responses was Kegels, with some claiming they made sex up to ‘300 per cent better’. Men say it never fails to impress (Picture: Shutterstock / napadons) A Reddit user known as u/SgtHaddix said: ‘Kegels. Nothing quite like a 10/10 suddenly upping her game by 300 per cent while she’s on top.’ While u/aupperk24 claimed kegels gave his wife all the power in bed, saying: ‘It’s honestly unfair, like she has the power to finish me off in like 10 seconds whenever she wants to.’ And u/TheParmesan claimed: ‘One of my best experiences was a partner hitting me with kegels in perfect sync while she was getting in from behind. One of those “WHOA” moments I think back on a lot.’ Sign up to The Hook-Up, Metro's sex and dating newsletter Love reading juicy stories like this? Keeping your pelvic floor muscles tight is a good idea for several reasons (Picture: Shutterstock / H_Ko) What are Kegels? Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. Kegels are an exercise that men and women can do to strengthen their pelvic floor. The action involves tightening and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles, which sit at the base of the pelvis. For women, this helps keep the bladder, uterus, vagina, and bowel in the right place. In addition to helping with bladder and bowel control, having strong pelvic floor muscles can boost core strength and stability and improve sexual function too. How to exercise your pelvic floor muscles There are several different ways you can exercise your pelvic floor, according to NHS Inform. They recommend starting in a comfortable position, such as sitting or lying down with your knees slightly apart. To exercise your pelvic floor, you should: Close the back passage (as if you are trying to stop yourself from passing wind, but try not to clench your buttocks). Try to squeeze your vaginal muscles up and in – try not to pull your stomach in when you’re doing this. Also avoid lifting your shoulders, eyebrows, or toes upwards. Do a combination of both long and short squeezes. For long squeezes, try to hold the muscles tight for around 10 seconds. You can work up to this and find the length of time that’s right for you. When the time is up, relax fully and breathe normally for about five seconds. Try to do 10 repetitions of the long squeezes with full relaxation between. Short squeezes involve squeezing the pelvic muscles tight for one second, then relaxing fully. Aim for 10 ‘lift and let go’ contractions. The more practice you have with the exercises, the more you can try them in different positions, such as while standing, walking, or bending. As for how often you should do these exercises, the NHS says you should aim to complete 10 long squeezes and 10 short squeezes, three times per day. If you can’t do this right away, don’t panic; you can build up to it. They add that you shouldn’t be put off if you don’t see improvement right away, as it can take several weeks. Have you tried doing Kegels? Love juicy stories? Need some sex tips to spice things up in the bedroom? Sign up for The Hook Up Newsletter now How Kegels can give your sex life a boost According to Bryony Lees, the in-house sex and relationship expert at Sextoys.co.uk, there are several reasons why women doing Kegels during sex can really excite men. ‘When men feel the contractions, it helps them to know that the person performing the exercise is present and paying attention to what they like and what feels good,’ she tells Metro. ‘It’s a small nod to say that you are enjoying it, without actually having to say anything.’ Another reason is the change in dynamics, as usually the male can be the ‘dominant’ one in the bedroom. ‘The action of Kegel squeezing slightly shifts the power and gives the woman more control. This can be exciting and new to the couple, and a lot of people enjoy spontaneity. Just like introducing a new toy or trying a new sex position, this act can be so much fun.’ Bryony adds: ‘Some men also really just enjoy feeling the pressure when the other person is squeezing. It’s a new sensation that can be felt without the use of toys.’ If you’re considering giving it a go, the expert says communication is key. ‘Always tell your partner what feels good and what doesn’t,’ she urges.
