The Mandalorian's Next Chapter Officially Arrives On Disney+ In 4 Months

The world of The Mandalorian isn’t over yet, and its next chapter is officially set to arrive on Disney+ in four months. The rise of streaming platforms has changed the way TV content is produced, released, and consumed, which, on the bright side, has been greatly beneficial to big and popular franchises. One that has known how to use the advantages of streaming platforms is Star Wars, which has been in constant expansion since Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney. After the controversial sequel trilogy, Star Wars left movies aside and began to focus on branching out to TV, both with live-action and animated shows. Kicking off this new era in Star Wars’ history was The Mandalorian, created by Jon Favreau and released in 2019. Set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian follows lone bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who is hired to protect the Force-sensitive child Grogu from the remaining forces of the Empire. The Mandalorian was a huge success with critics and general audiences, and it ran for a total of four seasons, ending in 2023. However, that wasn’t the end of the Mandoverse, which expanded with the TV shows The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew, accompanied by the movie The Mandalorian and Grogu. Now, the next chapter of The Mandalorian is ready for a 2027 release: Ahsoka season 2, which might be a defining part of this universe. Ahsoka Season 2 Will Be Released On Disney+ On January 20, 2027 Created by Dave Filoni, Ahsoka is set in the same timeframe as The Mandalorian and its other spinoff shows, and it focuses on the title character, who made her debut in the animated movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, directed by Filoni. Ahsoka, then, reunites viewers with the title character and former Jedi apprentice (played by Rosario Dawson), as she teams up with the Mandalorian warrior and her own former apprentice, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), as well as other characters from Star Wars Rebels. Together, they aim to stop the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn and his plans of reuniting the remnants of the Empire. Ahsoka was a critical success, currently holding an 85% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, which was key to its renewal for a second season. Ahsoka debuted on Disney+ in 2023, so it has been a very long wait for season 2, but luckily, it now has an official release date of January 20, 2027. At the end of Ahsoka season 1, Thrawn returned from another galaxy, with Ahsoka and Sabine ending up stranded there. Season 2 of Ahsoka will see them trying to find a way back, while Thrawn carries on with his plans of leading the remnants of the Empire against the New Republic. Like the first season, Ahsoka season 2 will consist of eight episodes and will follow a weekly release plan. Will Ahsoka Season 2 Be The End of Star Wars’ The Mandalorian Era? Ahsoka season 2 is the latest chapter in the franchise started by The Mandalorian, but it might not be the end of it just yet. While The Book of Boba Fett and The Skeleton Crew won’t return as they were planned as miniseries, Ahsoka could return for a third season if the story can still continue for one more round. However, even if Ahsoka ends with its second season, there’s still one more project in development in the Mandoverse. In 2020, a movie from this universe was announced as the “climactic story event” that will close this part of the Star Wars universe. The untitled movie will be directed by Filoni, who is expected to start working on it after Ahsoka season 2. At the time of writing, there have been no more updates on this project, but for now, Filoni’s movie will be the one to end Star Wars’ The Mandalorian era.
