Understandably, that's left fans hungry for Twilight Princess on a next-gen console like the Switch 2. Skyward Sword received a remaster on Switch and even Wind Waker can be played thanks to the GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online. Next week, the Ocarina of Time remake will arrive, making Twilight Princess one of the only Zelda games from a home console that can't be experienced on the Switch or the Switch 2. Thus far, Nintendo has been quiet on matters when it comes to an official re-release of Twilight Princess HD, which is perhaps why some fans have taken matters into their own hands for bringing the classic adventure game onto modern systems. We've seen texture packs pop up from time to time, and now, one fan in particular has unveiled an ambitious project that upscales Twilight Princess with a next-gen look, and you can download this remaster for free today. Available now on Gamebanana, Twilight Princess: Dusklight HD is remade from the ground up by a user named TIREDnONFIRE. Textures have been brought up from their original resolutions to 4K, and there have been additional optimizations to enhance performance and filesize. It's available for Windows and Android, but it can also fully run on Switch, according to the author. From the screenshots of Twilight Princess: Dusklight HD, this looks like a gorgeous upgrade for a great Legend of Zelda game that sadly hasn't gotten much love from Nintendo in recent years. If you're a fan of the original, the Wii U remaster, or you're just looking to give Twilight Princess a try for the first time ever, this looks like a wildly convenient and easy way to experience the game in 2026 with next-gen graphics. Releasing in November 2006, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was a Nintendo Wii launch title in North America, and the GameCube version debuted the following month. It had a much darker tone, especially compared to its predecessor, Wind Waker, and went on to become one of the top-selling games on the Wii console. A high-definition remaster known as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD came out for the Nintendo Wii U in 2016. Since then, it's been absent from Nintendo consoles, although fans have been asking for a Switch port since at least 2017, and now attention has turned toward a possible Switch 2 port of the game. Over 10 years have passed since Twilight Princess HD released on the Wii U, and considering how many The Legend of Zelda games have been ported, remastered, and even remade by Nintendo in the years since, it's no wonder fans are hopeful this entry will get an official re-release at some point in the near future. For now, we've at least got the new fan-made Dusklight HD remaster to check out, which seems to give The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess the kind of next-gen remaster it deserves.
