Nintendo Published Nov 8, 2026, 5:31 AM EST Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy. Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar. Sign in to your ScreenRant account The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has finally released, and by all accounts is one of the best-reviewed games of the year so far. While most of us probably try to savor this latest Nintendo Switch 2 game as much as possible, there's every chance we'll finish it long before we're actually ready to say goodbye. Fortunately, there's more Zelda to come, thanks to the fans. As a ROM hack (a modified version of a video game) of the original Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Indigo takes place 27-years after the events of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and offers players a unique new take set in the beloved Nintendo universe. The game has been in development since 2022 by Kenton M and their small team of volunteers, so you'd be forgiven for assuming it was one of the many overly ambitious fan projects that will probably never see the light of day. However, developer Kenton M recently shared an update on YouTube showing off some of the game's areas. It looks like an impressively creepy world, too. While Kenton M and team previously suggested the game might end up releasing before GTA 6, Rockstar's juggernaut open-world crime sim arrives November 19, and I don't reckon Indigo will suddenly materialize in the next two weeks. Even so, this one really does look worth the wait, using Ocarina of Time's engine to build something completely new. In The Legend of Zelda: Indigo we play as an older, bearded Hero of Time. Players can also expect brand-new items and weapons along with a brand-new dialogue system which aims to make for more rewarding, in-depth characters and quests. "This is going to allow us to really lean into the story and side quests," Kenton M explains. Not only that, but it'll support the developer's goal to have player choices actually have an impact upon the world. As far as ROM hacks go, this is definitely one of the more impressive ones I've seen, and I'm really curious to see more. For now, though, we can all fall in love with Ocarina of Time all over again. In our own 9/10 review, we called the game a loving remake that we wished would take just a few more risks. "The Switch 2 remake preserves its legacy, though it resists change in ways that occasionally clash. Remakes are always a sticky subject: many fans want the game to be completely different, while others want it to be basically the same, but on a modern platform with easy access. There's no real solution to making a remake that satisfies everyone, but Ocarina of Time comes close. With some additional content and replay value, it could easily have been the definitive version. But it will "just" have to settle for being an incredible remake that's worth playing at least once. Ocarina of Time is arguably worth playing in any iteration, including Switch 2."
