This article contains spoilers for Avatar: Seven Havens season 1, episode 13, "The Root Chakra." Aang's and Korra's successor in Avatar: Seven Havens has unlocked a game-changing new power in the season 1 finale. Throughout Book One, aptly titled "Survival," twin Avatars Pavi and Nisha fight to find out why they were separated, what happened to their parents, and how to stop the Anomaly, a terrifying dark spiritual presence threatening the city of Ellora. Now, Avatar: Seven Havens' season 1 ending includes a devastating twist that threatens to change Pavi and Nisha's sibling relationship beyond repair. Fear has been a major theme this season. The citizens of Ellora feared the Avatar's return; in turn, Pavi and Nisha feared being discovered and fully embracing their destiny. The Anomaly even fed off Pavi, Nisha, and Ellora's fear, growing stronger the more it consumed. There's a reason for that, though, and it's not as simple as it being a dark spirit. In Avatar: Seven Havens season 1, episode 13, "The Root Chakra," a memory reveals that, in response to being abandoned by her mother and father, Nisha manifested the Anomaly from her fear and pain, seemingly killing her parents and crushing her sister's leg in the process. As writer and executive producer Sehaj Sethi explained, "[The Anomaly] is her fear of abandonment, and that is something that's really core to Nisha. That idea of not being accepted is really, really hard for her" (via GamesRadar+). That's why the Anomaly was drawn to her and her sister, and why it showed them glimpses of their past. Of course, the only way to stop fear is by overcoming it. While Nisha is consumed by fear, especially after the truth threatens to destroy her relationship with her twin, Pavi faces it head-on, saving Ellora and unlocking an essential part of herself and her Avatar powers. Pavi Enters The "Chakra State" In Avatar: Seven Havens' Season 1 Finale Credit: Paramount+ When Pavi and Nisha return from the memory, Pavi pushes her sister out of the Anomaly's destructive path and faces its devastation on her own. Instead of cowering away from its growing dome, she embraces her power and her calling. "My whole life, I've lived in fear. Scared of what I really am, but I'm sick of being afraid. I know I can survive. I am the Avatar!" She cries out as her body and even her eyes glow red, eerily reminiscent of the Avatar State. This is the moment Pavi unblocks the first of her seven blocked chakras, the Root Chakra, which represents fear. As Faceless leader Agam explained earlier in the season, blocked chakras restrict the flow of energy through a person's body and can, as a result, inhibit a person's bending. By letting go of her fear, Pavi unlocks a special boosted power, similar to the Avatar State but only temporary. This helps her defeat the Anomaly, channeling its destructive energy and releasing it back into the sky. In an interview with TV Insider, creators and producers Michael Dante DiMartino, Sehaj Sethi, and Ethan Spaulding said they're calling this state of enhanced power the "Chakra State." Per Sethi, "We’re revealing a new sort of state of being that the Avatar can enter, and it is specifically linked to opening your chakra, so that is what Pavi channels when she is interacting and manipulating the energy, and it does give her a little power up for a short time. A brief, brief time." As Aang once learned from Guru Pathik in Avatar: The Last Airbender, there are seven chakras in total, and all seven need to be opened in a specific order for an Avatar to enter, and most importantly, control, the Avatar State. Pavi has a long way to go before she can reach that level of power, but at least she knows what she has to do. Her journey in Avatar: Seven Havens season 2, and likely beyond in the already confirmed seasons 3 and 4, has now truly started. The Chakras Will Be A Major Part Of Avatar: Seven Havens' Storytelling In Upcoming Seasons Credit: Paramount+ After defeating the Anomaly, Pavi wakes up in the cosmic void and surprisingly encounters Avatar Korra's constellation-like spirit, as well as Aang's, Roku's, and Kyoshi's. She sees an image of another Haven as she looks at her second chakra, a coastal city known as the Floating Isles. That's where Pavi needs to go to unlock the sacral chakra, which Spaulding explained "deals with pleasure, and it's blocked by guilt." Pavi's journey to the Floating Isles, accompanied by Geet and airbender Jae, will force her to immerse herself in a "fun" and "laid-back" culture. How will she handle that kind of freedom, given all the devastation she's just experienced? How will she deal with the guilt of leaving her sister behind, of blaming her for something a six-year-old Nisha arguably had no control over? While Pavi's talk with Jae in the finale's final minutes proves she hasn't completely lost her sense of humor and playfulness, everything that happened will still have changed her irrevocably. The titular Seven Havens will likely each correspond to a different chakra, and Pavi will have to travel to each one to unlock the full extent of her bending powers. This means Pavi's story will parallel Aang's in Avatar: The Last Airbender, as he flew across the world to learn more about water, earth, and firebending. This could potentially mean Nisha's upcoming arc will look more like Korra's, largely focused on one central location — Ellora in place of Republic City — as she and Karthik, a worthy successor to The Legend of Korra's airbending master Tenzin, continue their training openly now that Ellora has embraced Nisha as their savior. Several mysteries are still unsolved, including why there are two Avatars and Korra's involvement in the Cataclysm. Thankfully, since the show has already been renewed for three more Books, there's plenty of time to find out what happened when Avatar: Seven Havens returns.
