Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond. The John Wick franchise has become one of the most influential action series of the modern era, but it's difficult to imagine the films being so successful without Keanu Reeves. His portrayal of the legendary assassin has become inseparable from the character, and it's clear in every film he fully commits, both physically and emotionally, performing his own incredible stunts and fight sequences that have taken a relatively modest 2014 thriller into a billion-dollar franchise. Although John Wick has since expanded through various spin-offs, including The Continental and Ballerina, there's a strong argument that the larger franchise would struggle to survive without Reeves. After all, the actor remains its biggest draw, and replacing him would be an almost impossible task, especially considering how beloved his performance has become and how inseparable his face is from the franchise itself. Fortunately, fans haven't seen the last of the Baba Yaga. In an exciting announcement, Reeves is officially returning to his iconic role for an upcoming prequel story that promises to explore an entirely different chapter of John Wick's life. Keanu Reeves is officially returning as John Wick, although this time, fans will actually get to step into the legendary assassin's shoes. The actor is lending both his likeness and voice to an upcoming AAA John Wick game from Saber Interactive, the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and the recently released Hellraiser: Revival, which turned out to be a huge success among fans. Franchise director Chad Stahelski is also directly involved in the project, collaborating with Saber and Lionsgate to bring the Baba Yaga to life. The currently untitled game was officially unveiled on February 12, 2026, during Sony's State of Play presentation, where fans were treated to an impressive reveal trailer. Although Lionsgate had expressed interest in developing a major John Wick game as far back as 2022, this marked the first proper announcement of Saber's ambitious adaptation. Interestingly, the game will serve as a prequel to the original 2014 film, taking place years before Wick's legendary Impossible Task, which ultimately allowed him to retire from his life as an assassin. The original storyline will explore an earlier chapter of his career, introducing familiar faces alongside completely new characters created specifically for the game. As for gameplay, Saber is developing a single-player, third-person action experience built around the franchise's iconic gun-fu combat. Players can expect intense hand-to-hand fighting, brutal shootouts, cinematic camera work, and driving sequences, with an entirely new combat system designed to recreate the movies' distinctive choreography. Saber has also suggested that this younger version of Wick will fight with a rougher, less polished style than audiences have come to recognize. Based on Saber's success with the recent Hellraiser release, it seems they're tapped into what fans of a given franchise are expecting out of their video game adaptations, which is a great sign for John Wick fans, assuming the studio can stick the landing. Unfortunately, there's still no official release date, although 2028 has emerged as a possible launch window. In July 2026, Saber executive Steve Allison referenced the John Wick project while discussing the company's 2028 lineup, alongside Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 and the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. However, Saber subsequently clarified that these remarks weren't intended as an official release announcement. For now, the game remains in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with its final title and launch date still awaiting confirmation. Nevertheless, with Reeves and Stahelski both involved, this could become the definitive John Wick video game fans have wanted for years.
