The Hunger Games stands as one of the most popular movie franchises of all time. This dystopian sci-fi universe brought in over $3.3 billion around the world over the years. While the franchise initially followed Jennifer Lawerence's Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson's Peeta Mellark for four movies, The Hunger Games has since shifted its focus to exploring the many years and events that happened before Katniss volunteered herself as a tribute. First, the movie franchise returned with the prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which was released in theaters on November 17, 2023. Now, Haymitch Abernathy takes the lead. Based on Suzanne Collins' latest Hunger Games book, Sunrise on the Reaping follows Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) before and during the 50 Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The twist this time is that there are double the number of tributes, with 48 in total rather than 24. Some of the other tributes include District 12's Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and District 3's Ampert Latier (Percy Daggs IV), the latter of whom is the son of District 3 victor Beetee Latier (Kelvin Harrison Jr.).
