The Hindu Impact: Three-month-long darkness in Rolugunta ends as streetlights restored

Swift administrative action has brought relief to the residents of Rolugunta mandal where streetlights were restored after three months of darkness. The move comes after the issue was highlighted in a report published in The Hindu.Earlier, the villagers staged a novel protest by lighting candles to draw the attention of the authorities to their plight. After the publication of the news article titled ‘Adivasi hamlet protests three months of darkness, demands accountability’,the issue gained immediate attention of the local authorities.Taking cognisance of the report, the APEPDCL officials conducted a field inspection at the village.Meanwhile, the Rolugunta Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) intervened, directing the panchayat secretary to ensure the immediate restoration of power lines.With coordinated efforts from the electricity department and panchayat officials, the streetlights were restored, ending the months of hardship of the residents.The villagers, including Eedela Srinu, Eedela Sivashankar, and Eedela Kanthamma, expressed gratitude to the people and the authorities.
