The Hindu Foundation Day marked at Hyderabad school

As The Hindu prepares to celebrate its 148th Foundation Day on Sunday (September 20, 2026), the occasion was marked at Sri Saraswathi Vidya Mandir High School in Venkataramana Colony, Hyderabad, on Saturday (September 19, 2026), with former APSRTC Executive Director (Engineering) M.V. Nagavender Rao urging students to embrace values, ethics and integrity in their lives.Addressing the students, Mr. Rao, who is the Founder-President of Vriksha Mithra and President of the TGSRTC Retired Officers Welfare Association, recalled how his English teacher, the late Rangaiah Naidu, had encouraged him to read The Hindu regularly when he was studying in Class X in 1962 to improve his command of English. He said he had remained a loyal reader of the newspaper for the past 64 years.Highlighting the role of quality journalism in a democratic society, Mr. Rao said The Hindu offered comprehensive coverage of local, national, international, business and sports affairs, helping readers stay informed about current developments. He described the newspaper's reporting as authentic, objective, sensible and sensitive at a time when misinformation and sensationalism often overshadow facts.Mr. Rao advised students to cultivate ethical values and a strong sense of civic responsibility. Honest and principled citizens, he said, were vital for ensuring sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.He also emphasised the need to eradicate corruption from society.Stating that he had made it an annual practice to celebrate The Hindu Foundation Day with students of different schools, Mr. Rao said the initiative was aimed at promoting the values of integrity, social responsibility and ethical leadership among the younger generation.Principal B.
