Summary GoldenEye 007 PC Port v0.2.1 runs the full single-player campaign smoothly with audio, and all 21 missions have been tested. The port runs on Windows and Linux (including the Steam Deck). Multiplayer isn't working yet, but it's in the roadmap. Current quality-of-life features include MSAA, FOV, draw distance, and more. Late last month, I reported that N64 classic GoldenEye 007 had been 100% decompiled, opening up the door to PC, Android, and Linux ports, as well as mods. Fast-forward a few weeks later, and what seems to be one of the first working GoldenEye 007 PC ports has dropped. This pre-1.0 release, GoldenEye 007 PC Port v0.2.1, features the full single-player campaign running at a steady 60fps with audio and SFX working. All 21 solo missions have also been tested on Agent difficulty level and run "crash-free." The game runs on Windows and Linux, including the Steam Deck. According to its GitHub page, the port is based on KholdFuzion's GoldenEye 007 decompilation efforts. Quality-of-life improvements include a modern dual-stick controller layout and mouse controls. More advanced features like higher-resolution textures aren't part of the port yet, but they're in the development roadmap, according to its creator James Dansereau. That said, GoldenEye 007 PC Port v0.2.1 already includes features like frame cap, MSAA, texture filtering, FOV/draw distance, and more. Right now, the game's iconic multiplayer mode isn't working, but it's in development. You'll need to hunt down a GoldenEye 007 ROM If you're familiar with emulation, that shouldn't be too difficult Credit: Nintendo Like all recompilation-based retro game PC ports, you'll need to provide your own copy of the game's ROM to play it. In this case, it needs to be the NTSC-U (US) release as a .z64 ROM dump. It's worth noting that, like a lot of recent PC old-school game ports, this GoldenEye 007 recompilation effort was developed with the help of AI. To be clear, this isn't the only GoldenEye 007 PC port in development, given KholdFuzion is still working on their project (there are a few others in development, too). There's also a recompilation of the leaked GoldenEye 007 Xbox 360 port floating around the internet if you know where to look. That said, this seems to be the most complete and playable N64 version of the game, based on the positive Reddit comments in this thread on r/decomps. I haven't tried GoldenEye 007 PC Port v0.2.1 myself yet, but I'm hoping to carve out some time tonight to take it for a spin. In other retro game PC port news, GameCube classic Super Smash Bros. Melee recently dropped on Windows 11, Linux, and Android.
